getting started

How does zero-based budgeting work?

Give the money you already have a job. Add an account and its balance, create budgets for things like groceries and rent, then assign money to those budgets. When “ready to assign” reaches zero, all of your money has a plan. It doesn’t mean your bank balance is zero.

Record spending as you go so your budget reflects what’s left.

Do I need to create an account or connect my bank?

No Budget Zero account is needed in current versions of the app. You enter accounts and transactions manually; Budget Zero doesn’t connect to your bank. An Apple Account signed in to iCloud is needed for syncing between devices.

If an old version asks you to sign in to Budget Zero, update from the App Store. Contact us if you need help with older data.

Can I use Budget Zero offline?

You can manage your budget and record transactions offline. iCloud sync resumes when a connection is available. Purchases and restoring Pro require an internet connection.

iCloud sync

My data isn’t appearing on another device. What should I check?
  1. Update Budget Zero on both devices and check their internet connections.
  2. Check that both devices use the same Apple Account for iCloud, that iCloud Drive is enabled, and that Budget Zero is allowed to use iCloud in Apple’s Settings app.
  3. In Budget Zero, open settings → data management and check the iCloud status. Also check that your iCloud storage isn’t full.
  4. Open Budget Zero on both devices and give iCloud time to sync.

If it still doesn’t sync, email us with the status shown on each device. Avoid reinstalling or clearing your data while troubleshooting; changes that haven’t synced could be lost.

purchases & trials

Is there a one-time purchase?

Yes. Budget Zero Pro offers a one-time Lifetime purchase, alongside monthly and yearly subscriptions. Lifetime unlocks Pro without a recurring subscription. Your local price and the available plans are shown in the app before purchase.

How does the free trial work?

Eligible monthly and yearly subscriptions offer a one-month free trial. Eligibility and the terms for the selected plan are shown on the purchase screen. Lifetime does not include a subscription trial.

After the trial, a subscription renews at the displayed price unless canceled. To avoid renewal, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial or current subscription period ends.

I already paid. How do I restore Pro?

Make sure you’re signed in to the Apple Account used for the original purchase under Media & Purchases. Open Budget Zero’s settings and choose restore purchases, or use the restore option on the Pro purchase screen.

If no purchase is found, check the Apple Account and whether your subscription is still active. If Pro still doesn’t unlock, contact us. Don’t purchase again just to troubleshoot.

How do I cancel a subscription or request a refund?

To manage or cancel a subscription, open Apple’s Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Budget Zero. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel a subscription.

Apple handles payments and refund requests. You can request a refund from Apple. A Lifetime purchase has no recurring renewal to cancel.

your data

Where is my budget stored?

Your budget records are stored on your device and synced through your private iCloud database when iCloud is available. Support can’t look up or recover your budget records. The app also uses usage analytics, diagnostics, and purchase services; see the privacy policy for details.

How do I delete my budget data?

In Budget Zero, open settings → data management → clear all data and follow the confirmations. This permanently deletes your budget records from the device and iCloud, with deletion syncing to your other devices. It cannot be undone.

Clearing budget data doesn’t cancel an Apple subscription or automatically delete purchase and diagnostic records held by service providers. For privacy requests, email hello@budgetzeroapp.com.
